After years of construction and urban transformation, Barcelona will officially inaugurate the new Parc de les Glòries on Saturday, April 26, with a city-wide celebration. The event will feature free concerts, family activities, workshops, giant games, and a traditional hot chocolate breakfast. The festivities will run from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with multiple stages and activity zones throughout the park and surrounding area.
Together with the La Sagrera station works, the redevelopment of Les Glòries has been one of Barcelona’s most ambitious and complex urban projects in recent years. Despite delays and technical challenges, the city can now enjoy a transformed public space: 9 hectares of land now dedicated to citizens, boasting over 30,000 m² of green space and more than 1,000 newly planted trees in the heart of the city.
The completion of the works marks a new chapter for the area, turning it into a vibrant, accessible, and eco-friendly green lung for Barcelona.
The opening celebration will feature two main stages. The first will be located under the Umbracle, which will act as the heart of the event. There, visitors can enjoy a morning hot chocolate gathering, a children’s concert by Ambauka, a swing dance session, a magic show, and to top off the day, a musical tribute to Gato Pérez performed by the band Todos los gatos son pardos.
The second stage will be set up in the Berta Cáceres Agora, offering a more relaxed environment with storytelling sessions, puppet shows, and other small-format, family-oriented activities.
A highlight of the day will be activities taking place in La Clariana, a space much loved by local residents. It will be filled with giant wooden games and inclusive activities tailored for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, there will also be an outdoor escape room experience, the “Escape Street,” organized by La Farinera.
In addition, a photo exhibition documenting the transformation of Les Glòries will be displayed along Avinguda Diagonal and Rambla dels Encants, showcasing the area’s dramatic evolution.
The inauguration goes beyond the park itself. Nearby cultural and community centers will also join in the festivities. The Disseny Hub will offer free entry all day, while other activities will be organized by La Farinera, the Tram, the Encants Market, and the Glòries Viewpoint.
The new park has been designed with sustainability, biodiversity, and inclusivity at its core. Among its standout features is a 700 m² Umbracle, perfect for shaded public events, and the Berta Cáceres sensory agora, a 2,500 m² multipurpose space surrounded by giant bamboo trees. There’s also an immersion garden featuring climate-resilient plant species.
Families will enjoy a 2,000 m² super play area, equipped with 35 play structures, a sandbox, and rest zones. During the summer, the park will feature a water play zone, and it also includes a 1,200 m² dog recreation area, plus new biodiversity nodes, rain gardens, and colorful flowerbeds.
Although the public housing units planned for the area are still under construction, the opening of the park itself marks a significant milestone for the city and its residents.
With its green spaces, inclusive design, and a vibrant opening festival, the Parc de les Glòries is set to become one of Barcelona’s most beloved new public spaces, offering something for everyone—from kids and families to music lovers and nature enthusiasts.
