“Barcelona shows itself to be a resilient city capable of maintaining its attractiveness and good economic and business positioning, both at a European and global level”. This is the conclusion reached by the Barcelona City Council and the Chamber of Commerce from the reading of the international indexes of cities corresponding to the years 2020 and 2021, included in the Barcelona Observatory that was presented on March 3, 2022.
The Catalan capital is ranked, for the first time since 2016, among the 20 cities with the most global competitiveness, according to the Global Power City Index 2021 report, prepared by the Mori Memorial Foundation. In this ranking, it occupies the 18th position in the world and the 7th in Europe.
In terms of foreign investment, Barcelona ranked ninth among the world’s main urban areas in 2020 and second in research center projects, according to KPMG’s Global Cities Investment Monitor 2021. Likewise, it is considered the ninth most attractive city on the planet for visitors and entrepreneurs, ahead of Madrid, Rome, San Francisco, and Amsterdam, in the World’s Best Cities 2021 ranking, and it is the third preferred city in Europe to locate a start-up for the fourth consecutive year in the Start-up Heatmap Europe.
