The Carnaval 2025 will bring a hundred activities across the city from February 27 to March 5, spanning from Fat Thursday to Ash Wednesday. The celebration will feature parades, costume contests, masquerade balls, concerts, and workshops for all ages.
This year, the traditional Arrival of Queen Belluga moves to Sants, merging the city’s main Arrival with the district’s version, known for its satire and depiction of King Carnival as a figure inspired by current personalities. In 2025, the central character will be “Elon Muska Collonera,” starring in a cosmic mission that will officially launch the Carnival, culminating in the Taronjada, a vibrant confetti rain.
The festival will conclude on Ash Wednesday with the burial of the sardine and the start of Lent. The full program is available on the official Barcelona Carnival 2025 website.
On February 27, festivities will kick off in Sants at 5:15 PM with a drumming performance at Bonet i Muixí Square. At 5:45 PM, King Carnestoltes Elon Muska Collonera will make his grand entrance at the Cotxeres de Sants Auditorium, followed at 6:20 PM by Queen Belluga and a roaming spectacle, which will end at 7:00 PM with the Taronjada in front of the Sants District Headquarters.
This year’s theme, “Cosmic Carnival,” features Queen Belluga leading a festive expedition beyond Earth to combat repression and promote culture and freedom. She has enlisted the help of Elon Muska Collonera, who has built her an interstellar ship to take the party into space.
On Fat Thursday, the magnate will officially hand over the keys to the spaceship at the Cotxeres-Casinet Auditorium, accompanied by the giants of Barcelona Carnival. This event will mark the start of an intergalactic celebration. Attendees are encouraged to bring colorful sunglasses, old X-rays, or any accessory to protect their eyes from the dazzling launch.
Welcome to the Cosmic Carnival!
