Catalonia is set to mobilize €50 billion in the coming years to modernize infrastructure, improve mobility, and boost innovation. This figure comes from multiple initiatives outlined in over thirty articles in a special report.
One of the biggest challenges is upgrading key infrastructure. €16 billion will be allocated to completing Barcelona’s long-delayed Metro Line 9. Additionally, €6.346 billion will be invested to resolve the longstanding issues with Rodalies and facilitate its transfer to the Catalan government.
Another major investment is the Mediterranean Corridor railway, one of Catalonia’s most significant demands in recent decades. A total of €7.25 billion has been allocated to finalize this key connection, which will improve the transport of goods and passengers, strengthening the region’s economic competitiveness.
In sustainable mobility, the Catalan government will invest €150 million to install 9,000 charging points for electric vehicles, accelerating the transition to cleaner transport.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s 22@ technology district will continue to expand, attracting startups and multinational companies, further solidifying the city’s position as a hub for innovation and the digital economy.
Salvador Illa’s government has designed an economic plan through 2030 to attract foreign investment and strengthen Catalonia’s role in Europe. The plan focuses on sustainability and technology.
