The Grec Festival of Barcelona is the main event of the city with theatre, dance, music and circus. It is a festival with a long tradition that, in 2017, will reach its forty-first edition. The Grec has become not only the main cultural attraction of the summer of Barcelona, but also a reference in the European calendar of festivals.

Its name is due to the main space of the Festival, the place where the inaugural sessions are invariably organized: the Teatre Grec of Montjuïc, opened during the Universal Exhibition of 1929.

After forty years of its history, the Grec Festival of Barcelona has become the first producer of shows in Catalonia. Its mission is twofold: on the one hand, it supports local production and shows some of the best creations of Catalan collectives and artists, and, on the other hand, it has become a window open to the world that shows the most interesting proposals coming from different countries. In fact, the Festival is currently the main platform of shows produced in Barcelona.

The programme of the Grec-2017 will include a series of parallel activities, both for professionals and for the general public. In addition, as in the previous edition, the festival will present the extensive program for children, performances will take place in the gardens of the Teatre Grec, the Joan Miró Museum, the Museum of Archeology of Catalonia, as well as in the Theater Lliure, Mercat de Les Flors and Teatre Sant Andreu.

On Wednesday June 14 at 8pm, Björk will perform an exclusive 4-hour DJ Set for Sónar 2017’s Opening Night, on the Fira Montjuïc’s SonarHall stage (this performance requires a separate ticket from the SonarPass and Delegate Pass). 4. CAP ROIG FESTIVAL – music with views of the Mediterranean Sea

DATES: 7 JULY- 22 AUGUST
PLACE: CALELLA DE PALAFRUGEL, GIRONA

The main summer music festival on the Costa Brava is back! As before, the open-air will be held in the botanical garden of Cap Roig (Calella de Plafrugell) – one of the largest botanical gardens on the entire Mediterranean coast. It is located only two hours north of Barcelona and an hour’s drive from Girona.

Every year the programme of the festival includes concerts of world-renowned musicians, the festival itself becomes one of the most important cultural events of the Costa Brava, according to the British newspaper “The Independent”, one of the ten best festivals of the world.

In this year’s programme, as always, it includes the performances of the world stars, among them Ben Harper, Woody Allen, Nora Jones, Jayson Derulo, Anastacia, Andrea Bocelli and Spanish musicians – Miguel Bose and Sidonie group of Catalonia.

  • The origins of the Cap Roig’ Castle and its Botanical Gardens date back to 1927, when Russian Colonel Nicolai Woevodsky, who was keen on drawing and architecture, and his wife, the English aristocrat Dorothy Webster, decorator and amateur archeologist and gardening, left behind her court life in London to settle down and make true her fondest dream in this unique place located in a special enclave by the sea. A place prevailing in nature and calm.
