The Confiteria Group revives the La Font del Gat restaurant in Montjuïc, closed since the pandemic
April 3, 2024
The countdown has begun for the reopening of the La Font del Gat restaurant in Montjuïc, which closed during the pandemic. The Confiteria Group, led by entrepreneurs Enric Rebordosa and Lito Baldovinos, will manage and operate the space for a period of 10 years. Other iconic establishments in the city, such as Café del Centre, Paradiso cocktail bar, Cèntric, Bar Muy Buenas, and Betlem, are also part of this group. The restaurant is located in the modernist building designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch within the Laribal Gardens on Montjuïc.
“It perfectly aligns with the Confiteria Group’s philosophy.” According to sources close to Confiteria consulted by betevé, a space like this “perfectly aligns with the group’s philosophy and would mean reviving a historic and emblematic place in Barcelona.” For now, there are no specific details about the appearance or gastronomic proposal that will be offered, but it is clear that, as with other spaces managed by Confiteria, the intention is to “maintain its essence.”
The jury that chose the Confiteria Group’s proposal was constituted on January 31, 2024, and awarded 30 points to the gastronomic proposal, 23 to the environmental adaptation of the space, and 30 to the economic offer. In fact, Confiteria was the only company that submitted a bid for the 10-year contract.
€421,000 in rehabilitation works The tender to operate the restaurant comes after the Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (BSM) public company promoted the rehabilitation of the building, which has 100 square meters of interior space and 240 square meters of terrace. Rehabilitation works began in September 2023 with a budget of €421,000.
